Good morning and welcome to The Morning Column presented by The Sporting Tribune. Please subscribe if you haven’t done so already. It’s free and will be delivered to your inbox every weekday morning. OK, let’s get to it!

1. Can Odom make UNLV football successful?

Former Missouri head coach Barry Odom is the latest to try and make the Rebels a winner on the gridiron. Will he be the one to do it? The Sporting Tribune’s Steve Carp’s has seen every candidate come and go before Odom and has his thoughts.

Barry Odom told the story of a brief visit to UNLV’s Fertitta Football Complex and while taking a one-man tour of the facility, he was spotted and was asked to leave. Now, he can decide who comes and goes into the building. Odom is taking over for Marcus Arroyo as UNLV’s head football coach after Arroyo was fired following a 5-7 season. He made it clear that the talent is there to be successful and he hopes the majority of Arroyo’s players will remain and use their key cards to enter the Fertitta Complex while using the transfer portal to fill in the gaps.

2. Lakers get manhandled by Raptors in Toronto

The Lakers are now 2-2 on their current East coast road trip after getting dominated by the Toronto Raptors. The Sporting Tribune’s Rey Moralde has the latest on the Lakers in the midst of a two-game losing streak.

This game was the epitome of ugly. No Anthony Davis, no LeBron James, no Patrick Beverley, and no Wenyen Gabriel. The Lakers were very shorthanded against Canada's lone NBA team and the result was as expected, 126-113. But the game itself was really bad. Watching it felt like going to the dentist. The Raptors started the game out, 11-0. But for a while, the Lakers kept it close. The Raptors went on a 5-minute drought where they didn't make any field goals. Unfortunately, the Lakers decided it would be fun to miss shots, too, and they didn't make any field goals for 6 minutes. But by then, Toronto had snapped out of the funk in a big way. They went on a 16-0 run and ballooned the lead to as many as 26 points before the half.

3. Raiders peaking while Rams plummeting, creates "perfect storm”

The Las Vegas Raiders find themselves riding a three-game winning streak but can they keep the streak alive coming into a short week against the Los Angeles Rams tonight? The Sporting Tribune’s Ryan Sakamoto previews a game that could end the Rams’ season while keeping the Raiders’ playoff hopes alive.

When evaluating game-film, the reigning Super Bowl champs aren't the same from last season. They no longer have the top-heavy personnel that made them a threat atop the NFC. Gone is seven-time All-Pro OLB Von Miller and two-time All-Pro WR Odell Beckham Jr. Two players who were vital to the team's Super Bowl run--both are no longer in Los Angeles. You combine those two with the vastly underrated free-agent losses of DT Sebastian Joseph-Day, OG Austin Corbett, the retirement of OT Andrew Whitworth, the long-term injuries to QB Matthew Stafford (neck injury), WR Cooper Kupp (high-ankle sprain), DT A'Shawn Robinson (torn meniscus), and All-World DT Aaron Donald (high-ankle sprain), and the team now looks like damaged goods.

4. Fantasy Football QB and Defense Rankings Week 14

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is on the rise, Patrick Mahomes has a tougher than usual matchup and Tyler Huntley and Jared Goff should surprise people this weekend. Who should be your starting quarterback this week? The Sporting Tribune’s Brandon Deutsch has you covered.

Justin Herbert has had over 18 fantasy points in three straight games and this Chargers offense is starting to get into a groove. I am expecting Herbert to have 25+ fantasy points in a primetime game vs. the Dolphins.
