1. Lily Nabet is focused on a bigger goal

Angel City FC midfielder Lily Nabet is trying to create a lasting impact when it comes to women’s rights. The Sporting Tribune’s Kamran Nia has more on her inspiring story.

"Zan. Zendegi. Azadi." Women. Life. Freedom. These three words were chanted by Lily Nabet recently at a protest in Downtown Los Angeles. The Angel City FC midfielder did so because she is trying to create a lasting impact regarding women’s rights. Nabet is promoting the effort of protesters in Iran who risk their lives by standing for change daily. She uses her social media presence to advocate for women’s rights and voice her frustration.

2. Youth movement in full flight in Anaheim, despite struggles

The Anaheim Ducks have a "Big Three" on their hands, one that could eventually lead them to a Stanley Cup, and could also expand come the 2023 NHL Draft. The Sporting Tribune’s Felix Sicard has more on Anaheim’s future stars.

The Anaheim Ducks have had a nightmare season in the standings, but the organization's long game is looking more promising than ever. Star-level talent is the currency of Stanley Cup champions. Teams can mitigate a lack of star power with well-constructed depth, but it's been proven to be much easier to have stars, and then back-fill the rest of the roster. Of course, obtaining those elite players can take quite a bit of losing, smart drafting, and also pure luck. Thankfully for the long-term championship outlook of the Ducks, all three of those things have happened or are currently happening. A "Big Three" is already forming, and it will likely only expand come next season.

3. Vegas' newest sports franchise struggles in debut

The Desert Dogs of the National Lacrosse League drew 7,052 to their inaugural home opener, a 9-3 loss to Panther City. The Sporting Tribune’s Steve Carp was there to chronicle Las Vegas’s newest professional sports team.

Just about every professional team sport has tried to make it in Las Vegas. Indoor and outdoor football. Indoor and outdoor soccer. Ice and roller hockey. All sorts of basketball franchises. Friday, the latest to try the market had its home opener — the Desert Dogs of the National Lacrosse League, an indoor version of the sport. It’s played in a hockey rink, and, like indoor soccer, is marketed as a fast, high-scoring game in a confined space. Will it work? Call me skeptical. When the best-known commodity is ownership, it makes you wonder.

4. TST’s NBA Power Rankings Week 10

Vintage Kawhi Leonard is back, Anthony Davis will miss an indefinite time with a foot injury, and a new top team emerges in this week’s rankings. The Sporting Tribune’s Brandon Deutsch has you covered when it comes to dissecting the best and worst teams in the NBA.

Kawhi Leonard is back. He has averaged 25 points and 8.7 rebounds over his last 3 games and is coming off of a 31 point-3 steal performance against the Wizards. The Clippers have the 3rd best defense in basketball (109.6 defensive rating) and have won four of their last five games. This will be a dangerous team once they hit their stride.

5. Shorthanded Lakers get blown out by the Suns

LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, and Austin Reaves did not play on Monday and it showed. The Sporting Tribune’s Rey Moralde has more on the Lakers’ blowout loss in Phoenix.

This one didn't even feel like a contest. The Lakers didn't stand a chance as they were smashed by the Phoenix Suns, 130-104. When I did the game preview, we learned that LeBron James and Austin Reaves weren't playing in addition to Anthony Davis already being out. Well, about 45 before gametime, Russell Westbrook was deemed to be out. And on the other side, Phoenix had Deandre Ayton available, who missed the last two Suns games. Devin Booker was out but Chris Paul was available. Still, it was almost like the game was lost before it even started.

6. Golden Knights woes at home continue

Even the return of defenseman Alex Pietrangelo from a family emergency wasn't enough to get a win at T-Mobile Arena. The Sporting Tribune’s Steve Carp has the latest on the Golden Knights’ struggles at home.

Bruce Cassidy’s patience is wearing thin. The Vegas Golden Knights continue to struggle at T-Mobile Arena, where they are dead-flat average. Even the return of Alex Pietrangelo, the team’s all-star defenseman, couldn’t change the team’s struggling fortunes at home. Cassidy said it’s time to get this straightened out once and for all. The Knights are simply giving away too many points in a division they should be dominating. He wasn’t singling anyone out, but he’s not pleased with the collective performances of his guys in a building that should be one of the toughest in the NHL to play in. The Knights play to 103% capacity in 17,500-seat T-Mobile Arena.
