1. Sunday Funday for Saturday in Las Vegas

Jeff Saturday won his debut as the Indianapolis Colts coach, 25-20 after the Raiders once again failed to execute late in the game. The Sporting Tribune’s Steve Carp was at Allegiant Stadium for the Raiders’ latest disappointment and was nearly at a loss for words postgame.

I’m not sure where this latest setback for the Raiders ranks in what has evolved into an abysmal season, but Sunday’s 25-20 loss to the Indianapolis Colts at Allegiant Stadium might be close to, if not at the top in this 2-7 campaign. Yes, there was the agonizing loss to Arizona in Week 2 where the Raiders blew a 20-point lead. There was the no-show in New Orleans two weeks ago where they were shut out by the Saints. They squandered an opportunity to win at Jacksonville last week.

2. Takeaways from the Chargers’ 22-16 loss to the 49ers

The Chargers kept it close but fell short on Sunday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers. The Sporting Tribune’s Fernando Ramirez has the latest from the Chargers following the loss.

The Chargers showed the whole country they have fight, but they are missing knockout power. That is what hurt them on Sunday night. “I really loved the way our team competed,” Chargers coach Brandon Staley said. “We didn’t execute perfectly all the time. I think that we’ll learn from that we had some opportunities in the first half to score the ball after the takeaways after the punt block. We’re going to learn from that. But our team competed tonight. We make no excuses for anything injury wise.”

3. Cooper Kupp departs with ankle injury in Rams loss to the Cardinals

Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp departed Sunday’s loss against the Arizona Cardinals early in the fourth quarter with a right ankle injury. The Sporting Tribune has the latest on what has been a nightmarish season for the Super Bowl champions.

Kupp went in the air near the sideline in an attempt to grab an off-target pass from quarterback John Wolford, came to the ground and had Cardinals cornerback Marco Wilson roll over his leg. Kupp rolled out of bounds and to the Rams’ bench area, where he was tended to by the team’s medical staff. Kupp, the MVP of last season’s Super Bowl, was barely able to put weight on his right leg and was taken to the locker room. During a rough season for the 3-5 Rams, Kupp had been a bright spot. He had three receptions Sunday, but they went for a combined minus-1 yard as Wolford struggled as a replacement for Matthew Stafford, who was out with a concussion.

4. Anthony Davis has dominant game in Laker victory over Nets

The Lakers won their third game of the season (and just their second in regulation, beating Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets, 116-103, on Sunday night. The Sporting Tribune’s Rey Moralde has the latest following a rare Lakers win at Crypto.com Arena.

The Lakers outrebounded the Nets, 45-41. They also had more assists, 25-22; they finally moved the ball better. They even took care of the ball better; Lakers had 9 turnovers compared to the Nets’ 12. We already saw the Nets’ three-point percentage and the Lakers did better there, too (11/27, .407). Everything seemed to go well for the Lakers here. It was easily their best performance this season. It’s a bit of a weird schedule quirk but the Lakers have a four-day break. They’re gonna get down on Friday when they face the Detroit Pistons at Crypto.com Arena. But it’s finally good for the Lakers to get a victory; why would they want this weekend to end?

5. Clippers to work on better execution vs. Rockets

The Clippers will visit the Houston Rockets on Monday for the third matchup between the teams already this season and The Sporting Tribune has the latest as the Clippers await the return of Kawhi Leonard and recover from a disappointing loss to the Brooklyn Nets over the weekend. (The one highlight of the game was LAFC bringing the MLS Cup trophy to the court and taking pictures with Paul George.)

The Clippers seemed convinced that, even in the prolonged and ongoing absence of Kawhi Leonard, they had discovered the path to consistent success. With nine members of the rotation. excluding Leonard. averaging more than 17 minutes per game, the Clippers had come to rely upon their depth to wear down the opposition. Their multitude of options served them well on both ends of the court during a stretch of five wins over six games before the Brooklyn Nets pulled away late for a 110-95 victory on Saturday.

6. Streaking Kings hit road to test rekindled Flames

The Los Angeles Kings will try to maintain their hot streak when they hit the road to face the Calgary Flames on Monday night and The Sporting Tribune has the latest.

The Kings have won four in a row, all on a homestand that concluded with a 4-3 win against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday. “We haven’t given up much at 5-on-5, which we’re happy about,” Kings coach Todd McLellan said. “A few things to clean up, but good teams play with detail all the time, over and over again, they don’t let it slip. That’s what we’re pushing to be.” The Flames ended a seven-game losing streak with a 3-2 win against the visiting Winnipeg Jets on Saturday.
