1. The Californian players in the 2022 World Cup

The Golden State will be well represented at the World Cup in Qatar and The Sporting Tribune’s Chandrima Chatterjee gives you a look at each one that will take the field beginning this weekend.

Only two states can boast about having four players on the 2022 U.S. Men’s World Cup squad – New York and California. Of the roster of 26, the only player with prior World Cup experience is DeAndre Yedlin, so chances are, their names are less than familiar to the casual soccer fan. 2. Chargers WR’s Keenan Allen and Mike Williams participate in practice

The Chargers could have their star receiving duo back on the field for their big Sunday Night Football matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Sporting Tribune’s Fernando Ramirez has the latest on the status of Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.

The offense is close to being somewhat whole again in the passing game. Chargers receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams returned to practice in a limited role on Wednesday ahead of a big Sunday Night matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. Allen has played in a little less than a game this season. He has been dealing with a nagging hamstring injury, which he has tried to return from twice. He has suffered setbacks both times. Williams hurt his ankle toward the end of the blowout loss to the Seahawks. He caught a pass, and the defender tackled him with his foot under the tackler’s body. He has been out for about three weeks.

3. USC lands 2023 No. 1 recruit Isaiah Collier

Isaiah Collier, ranked as the No. 1 point guard recruit for 2023 by the 247Sports composite, will play his college basketball at Southern California. The Sporting Tribune has the latest from USC.

Collier, from Wheeler High School in Marietta, Ga., announced his choice on Wednesday. The recruiting service lists him as the No. 4 overall player in the class, and he was the only member of the Top 10 who had yet to declare his next destination. His commitment gives coach Andy Enfield and the Trojans a Top 10 recruiting class for the second straight year. Collier chose USC over Cincinnati, Michigan and UCLA.

4. Rebels’ identity forged in signature win

A second-half shutdown of No. 21 Dayton Tuesday led to a 60-52 win for UNLV which improved to 3-0. The Sporting Tribune’s Steve Carp has the latest on UNLV’s undefeated start to the season.

When UNLV’s men’s basketball nonconference schedule was announced, it was widely mocked for its lack of quality. Life Pacific? Really? But no one quibbled when they saw Dayton on the slate. The Flyers were preseason top-25 and had a KenPom ranking of 24. They were as legit as it got. So when Dayton, the nation’s 21st-ranked team, visited the Thomas & Mack Center Tuesday night for a nationally televised game against the Runnin’ Rebels, many among the 5,732 who showed up figured it was going to be UNLV’s first loss and as long as Kevin Kruger’s team didn’t get blown out, they could live with it.

5. Dodgers prospects have successful Arizona Fall League

The top Dodgers names in Arizona performed well and The Sporting Tribune’s Bruce Kuntz breaks down how each player did.

The Arizona Fall League has ended, signaling that the offseason is here in full. The Dodgers sent seven prospects to compete, including top names Andy Pages and Jose Ramos.
